Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy(BCST) is an Osteopathic developed method, based around the health and function of the central nervous system. This includes the brain, spinal cord and the fluid system (which encloses both) and looks for any restrictions or unusual movement and tension within the body.
Using the definition from the Medical Dictionary, "Craniosacral therapy is a holistic healing practice that uses a very light touch to balance the craniosacral system in the body; which includes bones, nerves, fluids and connective tissues of the cranium and spine."
I just love research and interestingly discovered the first reference regarding movement of the spinal nerves and its importance to health was found in a 4,000 year old text from China.
Research has also shown that thought, emotion, stress, anxiety, and trauma always involves some form of physical response, such as nagging pains, migraines, tummy upsets, constipation etc. If not dealt with these can wreak havoc on our nervous system and create a further imbalance, leading to more distress on the mind and body.
Clinical research papers, refer https://clinicaltrials.gov have shown Craniosacral Therapy can help with migraines, chronic pain, stress related problems, insomnia etc.
This is how it works …
... allows the body to make its own changes, i.e. give the body the 'right' environment and it has the capacity to heal itself. This allows the body to adjust at its own pace.
... is non invasive and only requires the most gentlest touch. This promotes significant changes overall, whereas stronger manipulation may bypass this system.
... helps promote total health in the body (physical, mental and emotional). This stimulates overall health, with less stress, more relaxed sleep patterns and greater energy.
Although Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a natural therapy it is hard to describe how it works. Like the wind, you know it is there, you can feel it, you can't physically see the wind, though you can certainly see the effects it can have.
If you have any concerns, ask your doctor if this form of therapy is right for you. Also refer to the options for adults and 5 to 18 years of age and the FAQ section regarding any contraindications and what to expect.
Maureen opened her clinic in 2009 and specialises in conditions related to stress, trauma and chronic long-term health concerns that tend to stump the medical practice (though often found to be linked to stress).
