Back pain causes a lot of misery and can vary from mild discomfort making it painful to stand to excruciating pain that prevents you from moving.
This pain can feel like a dull ache, a burning sensation or a sharp intense pain or cramp. The location of the pain can be in many areas that form the spine, for example the muscles, nerves, joints, bones, or off-shoots from the spine.
Musculo-skeletal pain will either be acute or chronic and is caused by something you did or didn't do with your body. By that I mean you may not have used the correct posture when handling something heavy and overworked your muscles which then irritated the nerve endings. This was due to the excess metabolic waste material produced during the strenuous action causing a chemical irritation to the nerves.
Of course there are many more reasons for back pain, such as pregnancy, being overweight, pushing your body past its physical limit, poor posture, a fall or accident and reduced muscle strength in your `core’ muscles, i.e. abdominals.
Depending on your level of pain and needs at time of appointment this will be helped by a combination of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy together with some simple Chi Kung stretching and strengthening movements to practice in between appointments. These simple movements strengthen your core muscles as well as creating internal body awareness.
In conjunction you may be referred to a back-care specialist.
