FAQ and Health Benefits regarding Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
If you are not sure if this may help you, then ask your doctor/health practitoner or refer to Bodi Solutions
What happens during an appointment?
Before each session begins, we take the time to get to know you and identify your main concerns. During the session we ensure you feel comfortable and totally supported, all within a confidential environment. After the session we touch base with you within 24 to 48 hours to check in with you, support you and encourage you on your wellness journey.
Sessions are usually experienced as a very profound relaxation, which you may have never experienced before. You may also experience light tingling sensations, heat, cold or internal adjustments. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy means physical symptoms are often noted as a response to stress, anxiety and trauma. Emotional issues may arise, though there is total support within the clinic environment.
Some people may also feel stronger sensations for a day or two after their appointment as the body adjusts.
The clinic experience is non-intrusive and gentle, the techniques safe and very effective. Because sessions are carried out with you fully clothed it is preferable to wear loose clothing for comfort.
How many appointments do I need?
This will vary depending upon you, the severity of the health issue and how readily your system responds to this therapy. To fully benefit you may need more than two or three appointments, with once per week being the ideal. As a general rule, adults see and feel a significant change to their health within five to ten sessions.
The initial session for an adult is 60 minutes and 45 minutes for 6 to 16year olds. Thereafter sessions vary, depending on the program or session type you have chosen.
How can this help my headaches?
Headaches and migraines have been improved by at least an 80%. In some cases, clients have had a long case history of migraines prior to Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy and have walked away with no further occurrences since.
Why did the practitioner spend time at the base of my spine, when my problem was a migraine?
The Craniosacral system connects the sacrum (base of the spine) and pelvis to the the neck and head that runs through the spinal canal. You also have connective tissue, muscles, bones, organs etc so you really are all connected.
What this means is any disturbance to the Craniosacral system through muscle tension or trauma (such as an accident or even emotional trauma and stress) can cause an imbalance on other parts of the body. For example, tension at the sacrum, i.e brought about by a fall on your `butt' can easily show up as symptoms in the form of a migraine, or a pelvic imbalance can trigger chronic neck pain and headaches. What your therapist is looking and listening for is any dysfunction within your whole system. To help resolve your symptoms our work is focused on the whole body and not necessarily the area you thought needed attention.
Why do some people feel worse after a session?
Hmmm, that's a good point and there are a couple of reasons for this. They could be releasing a previous stress or injury held in their body, or their body is finding its natural space after adapting to an injury.
For example, a fall, whiplash, surgery or even poor posture over time has had an accumulative effect, This means the body has been under excessive pressure and gives feedback that all is not well by producing pain or restricting movement in some way. Because we want to move away from pain, we adapt, though this generally places pressure on other parts of the body.
Any symptoms of feeling worse normally disappear within 24 to 48 hours after a session.
Why bother having a session if I am feeling well?
It's similar to an insurance policy or warrant of fitness. Rather than waiting for your car to rust or breakdown you take it for its regular service and it saves you money in the long run. You are pro-actively maintaining health. Also globally there is a new movement toward prevention of dis-ease and a focus on wellness. With a Bodi Wellness health warrant of fitness you may also find you feel better than you thought you could.
Clients who currently come to Bodi Wellness for a WoF say they have more energy, are happier and overall less stressed and more resilient.
What about age-related issues?
It is excellent for age-relate conditions, such as stiffness, inflammation and immune imbalances. You may find you become more agile and mobile together with higher energy levels. The ideal is to maintain improved levels with Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy at regular intervals, for example a session every 6 to 8 weeks though 3 months is ideally the maximum time since your last appointment.
Is there any condition where Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy cannot be used?
This is a gentle and non-manipulative therapy so adverse reactions are unlikely, other than feeling worse in some instances for the initial 24 - 48 hours as mentioned earlier.
The few areas of concern could be around brain aneurysms, recent skull fractures or recent strokes. If in doubt your Bodi Wellness practitioner will not proceed unless your General Medical Practitioner has provided clearance to follow up with this therapy.
